Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced that 18-year-old Derek Trejo and a 17-year-old co-defendant have been charged with second-degree murder and weapon possession in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Josue Argudo in Woodhaven on January 9th.
According to prosecutors, Argudo was walking home from school along Jamaica Avenue between 3:25 and 3:43 p.m. when he became involved in a verbal argument with the two defendants. The dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the younger defendant allegedly stabbed Argudo in the torso. Authorities say Trejo followed the teen as he ran down 76th Street, punching him and striking him with his headphones.
Argudo collapsed a short distance away and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead despite efforts by good Samaritans and first responders. Both defendants were arraigned late Sunday night and remanded by a Queens Criminal Court judge. Trejo is due back in court on January 15, while the 17-year-old has already returned to court. The investigation remains ongoing.
