Police are urging the public to help locate a suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Bronx Uber driver on New Year’s Day, the city’s first homicide of the year.

NYPD said the shooting occurred around 7 a.m. on January 1 near Morris Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway in the Mount Hope section of the Bronx.

According to investigators and the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, 55-year-old Issa Mbolo-Isac was finishing a long New Year’s Eve shift and was on his way to a mosque after speaking with his brother by phone. Two men allegedly approached his vehicle and attempted to pull him out. When he tried to drive away, shots were fired, striking him in the head. He died at the scene.

NYPD said 24-year-old Ehinel Troncoso is wanted in connection with the killing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
