The incident occurred just before 8:35 a.m. on August 27 at 1412 College Avenue in the Claremont section of the Bronx.
According to police, the man in custody allegedly opened fire on three individuals inside the apartment building.
When officers arrived, they found two of the victims, a 37-year-old man shot in the chest and a 62-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the arm. Both were transported to a nearby hospital, where the younger man was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released pending family notification. The 62-year-old man is expected to recover.
A third victim, a 59-year-old man who had been shot in the buttocks, later showed up at a hospital on his own. He is also listed in stable condition.
According to police sources, the 44-year-old suspected shooter was apprehended near the scene and taken in for questioning.
