NYPD responded to NY Deli and Mini Mart at the corner of Hegeman and Van Siclen avenues on the report of a stabbing around 3:07 pm on August 1st.

Police arrived to find 33-year-old Diego Sandoval Nava suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

According to witnesses, the customer became angry and left the store yelling after being refused a cigarette. However, he later came back and attempted to go behind the counter to take the cigarettes. When Nava tried to intervene, the customer stabbed him.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
